NGC1232

Updated: 1.7.03

This galaxy, NGC1232, appeared much fainter than the reported mag 9.9. It does present a nice face-on view with very distinct arms, and a large size of 8.5' x 7.5'. As a result, the surface brightness is rather low. This shot represents the first taken with the new Optec f/5 focal reducer and did a nice job. A violet filter was included, but not used. The image was taken at the Harmony Club dark site.
