M106

Updated: 3.23.05

M106 is another very nice galaxy in Canes Venatici. It is probably part of the Ursa Major Cloud, which includes M108 and M109. While the core and overall brightness is high (mag 8.4), the outer envelope is very faint and difficult to capture. As a result of this outer portion, the size is a large 19'x8'. This image was taken at Chiefland during the CFAS Astrofest with the club's TEC 140mm APO refractor.
