M101

Updated: 6.29.02

M101 was the first image taken at the CFAS star party held on 3/14 to 3/17/02. It is a large, beautiful face on spiral that has generally low surface brightness and is located in the constellation of Ursa Major.

Full sensitivity of the MX7C was achieved by using an auxilary guide camera on the piggybacked 80mm Stellarvue AT1010 refractor. Good S/N and strong color signal resulted from this. The 70 total minutes of integration represents the longest exposure I have performed with the MX7C and is equivalent to 140 minutes if Star2000 was employed for guiding.
